A Milestone in Aviation Sustainability

EasyJet has officially confirmed a firm order for an impressive total of 157 additional A320neo Family aircraft, following the green light from its shareholders. This substantial order includes 56 A320neo and 101 A321neo aircraft, and notably, the conversion of an existing order of 35 A320neo aircraft to the larger A321neo variant. This strategic move is a key component of EasyJet’s ambitious plan for fleet renewal and expansion, marking a significant leap towards enhancing its operational sustainability.

The CEO of EasyJet, Johan Lundgren, expressed his enthusiasm about the deal, stating, “We are very pleased to be able to confirm this significant order which not only enables easyJet to replace its older aircraft with more efficient models, a cornerstone of our net zero roadmap, but also empowers us for disciplined growth. This includes the considerable advantages offered by upgauging.” Lundgren further highlighted the importance of this partnership with Airbus in reinforcing EasyJet’s dominant stance at Europe’s leading airports.

From Airbus’s perspective, Christian Scherer, the Chief Commercial Officer and Head of International, shared his delight in supporting EasyJet’s fleet expansion and renewal. He remarked, “EasyJet’s choice of our Airbus fleet allows the airline to elevate its market competitiveness by utilizing the most advanced, modern, and passenger-friendly aircraft available today.” Scherer also emphasized the shared commitment of both entities towards decarbonizing the aviation sector, praising the investment in fuel-efficient and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)-capable aircraft as a testament to this joint dedication.
