A Strategic Expansion

The Lufthansa Group has made a significant move to enhance its fleet, placing a firm order for 40 additional Airbus A220-300s for its short and medium-haul routes. Having introduced the A220 to its lineup in 2016 through SWISS, the group emphasizes its commitment to modern, economical, and fuel-efficient air travel.

A Testament to a Strong Partnership

“With today’s order for 40 additional Airbus A220s, we are continuing our unique partnership with Airbus,” stated Carsten Spohr, Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of Deutsche Lufthansa AG. This order not only underscores the strength of the Lufthansa-Airbus alliance but also marks a milestone as the group anticipates the delivery of its 700th Airbus aircraft. Christian Scherer, Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Airbus International, expressed delight over this reaffirmation of trust from a long-standing partner.

The A220, heralded for its innovative design tailored for the 100-150 seat market, stands as the most efficient solution in its category. It supports the Lufthansa Group’s ambitions towards sustainable and progressive airline development. The A220-300 variant, in particular, boasts an impressive range of up to 3,400 nautical miles (6,300 km) and offers a 25% reduction in fuel burn and CO2 emissions per seat compared to prior generations, alongside unmatched cabin comfort.
