A Bold Step Towards Greener Skies
Toulouse – December 4, 2023 – In a groundbreaking initiative, a 30% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) blend will be utilized for one in every five deliveries of new ATR aircraft to Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC), effectively saving four tonnes of CO2 for every quintet of aircraft. This initiative translates into a 6% SAF blend for the inaugural leg of each ferry flight starting from 2023. AirSwift proudly becomes the inaugural airline to partake in this programme, with a fresh ATR 72-600 aircraft from the NAC Skyline embarking on its journey from Toulouse to the Philippines on November 27, 2023. This aircraft is earmarked to enhance AirSwift’s operations at its El Nido hub in the scenic island of Palawan.
ATR 72-600: A Beacon of Efficiency and Sustainability
The ATR 72-600 stands out as the regional aircraft with the lowest emission rates, courtesy of its highly efficient turboprop technology combined with ATR’s unwavering dedication to minimizing CO2 emissions and operational costs. This aircraft model boasts a 45% decrease in CO2 emissions in comparison to regional jets of similar size. Having already received certification for flying with up to a 50% SAF blend, ATR is on a steadfast mission to achieve 100% SAF compatibility across its entire aircraft family by 2025.
The SAF, ingeniously produced by TotalEnergies in France, derives from sustainable sources such as used cooking oils or animal fats. This SAF is then meticulously blended with conventional Jet A-1 fuel at a 30% ratio. Utilizing neat SAF could potentially slash CO2 emissions by up to 90% over its entire lifecycle, in stark contrast to traditional fossil fuels.
